Hostgator Review Written by Amol P

When I was just getting started as a webmaster I looked around for ‘discounts’ on hosting so that I could get some cheaper hosting. Now that I’ve got a few years experience I can comfortably say it’s worth paying for quality hosting instead of cheap hosting at ANY host!

I have more than 7 sites not hosted on a hostgator servers and I have been hosting with them since last 1 and half years. I never faced any downtime issues or any other problems. Previously, I was using some cheap host (which I guess even shut down now!) as I didn’t want my hosting to cost me more than $4/month. Everything was fine till few days but then the host started showing its true nature. First I had a downtime of more than 12 hours. When asked, the support replied simply “They don’t know”. Later started a series of other troubles and it was then I decided to move on to some other ‘reliable’ host.

I found a HostGator coupon of just $0.01/month hosting for first three months and it was then that I decided to give HostGator a try although it was a beyond my budget (about $8/month). But I understood the difference in the first month itself as I NEVER faced ANY downtime. The support was also great as I always got my reply in less than half an hour. They are a bit costly but that’s ok for the quality and the tension free hosting that you get. If you want cheaper, you can go for their baby plan which is about $5/month and then move on to other plan if needed.

HostGator also provides you with all the latest softwares for your account and keeps you up to date! Overall, I really had a great experience till now and I am NOT looking to change HostGator anytime in near future too even if I get some ‘better’ deal!

I would rate hostgator as 10/10 in the overall rating.

Review of Hostgator by Maria P

Hostgator is one of most important hosting companies. HostGator offers a complete service for advanced and newbies users. For 7.95 per month you can have a complete plan, with no set up charge, 45 days trial, 24/7/365 support, and most important for resellers and advanced users, a very complete control panel, that includes different payment methods, your nameservers address, statistics information and more. This panel has a Fantastico module, one of the most complete Fantastico module I’ve ever seen, and they add new scripts monthly.

In addition with credit cards payment method, Hostgator accepts paypal, which is more convenient for young starter users who haven’t got any credit card. This is a clear advantage on their competitors.
Get AWstats, Real Time Updates its rarely found in many hosting companies. When you ask for Awstats updates, they give you 24 hours turnaround information and always say, AWstats took too much resources form their servers. Hostgator gives the RTU on Awstats, so you can see every minute the traffic of your website an important marketing tool included in the 7.95 package for the same price or even cheaper than others.

Another benefit is the Website builder, an incredible script with thousand of great templates for your site. Because of a partnership with Monster Template, HostGator gives you the chance to select between many premium templates.

As many forums and bloggers say, its one of the most quality companies that hosts thousands of webs sites from all over the world. My score for this awesome service is 9/10.

HostGator Review by Angel H.

There are probably thousands of web hosts out there for less than $10, some may even only cost $2. But from all the hosts I’ve used priced around the $10 or less category, Hostgator has proven to be the best in terms of support and reliability. I’ve only faced one instance of real downtime as at that point Hostgator had upgraded their servers, and they did it at night so I didn’t lose much traffic. As far as the features go, you do get what you pay for but keep in mind that while a lot of bandwidth and space sounds nice, you don’t get much CPU usage. However this is a problem with using any shared host, not just Hostgator so you can’t really blame them.

As far as their non-shared hosting solutions go, apparently they don’t offer VPS at the moment so if your site does outgrow the shared hosting plan, you’ll need to upgrade to a dedicated server if you want to stick with them which is a bit expensive. So for VPS needs, I recommend you go elsewhere. But as far as shared goes, it should get the job done. I’ve contacted support a couple of times and usually got a reply within less than 24 hours. One time, I got a reply within an hour or so which is pretty good considering the amount of clients they have. I’ve also gotten my problem resolved every time, and their support has always been patient and knowledgeable. Their live chat support isn’t that good though I’d only recommend that for some brief questions, or to ask some questions related to their services before signing up but not as a means of real support. Use their ticket system if you do encounter a problem.

As for my review, I’ve been paying $10 a month for about a year or so now, and overall for that price I’d say it was money well spent so I’ll rate them a 9/10.

Review of Hostgator by DarkLT

Hostgator is really the most reliable hosting provider from all. I have tried many hostings and all of them failed me. They offered great plans for only few dollars, but their hosting was slow or crashed five times in a day. In three months of using hostgator, my sites were unavailable only once for 15 minutes and speed is really fantastic.

When I first seen hostgator, I said to myself “Oh gosh I will never pay 10$ for this host”, but this looks expensive only from the first sight. When you look more deeply you see that their offer is really great. I’m paying 10$ per month, but I can host as many sites as I want, I can have as many e-mails as I want, and what is more: disk space and bandwidth are UNLIMITED. This is really great, and if you can pay for example for the whole year at once you can save a lot of money. Of course if you would choose cheaper plan (Hatchling) you could have only one domain name, so basically Hatchling plan is only for those who have one big website and are not going to have another one. I think this plan is not really good, so better save some more money and choose plan Baby, like me, I think this plan will really be perfect choice for everyone.

Well there are no perfect things in our lives, but hostgator is almost perfect, so I would evaluate it nine of ten.

My Review of Hostgator

I have been a customer of Hostgator for a year and a half and so far have had no problems with them. My current plan is the baby croc plan. I decided that this was the best one for me since I would be hosting several different websites. Before deciding on Hostgator I had looked around for the cheapest hosting and I found several that were less expensive than Hostgator. After my host, who I will not be naming, had periods of several days where the mysql databases would not work I started looking for another host.

I had heard that Hostgator was a good host, but I still did not feel like shelling out the $9.95 per month. I ultimately decided to stay with my old host and after 2 more mysql crashes and a couple days of I decided to switch to Hostgator. I originally signed up with the “baby croc” plan and I used the Hostgator coupon code “Jury” to get the first month for one cent. Their control panel was pretty easy to navigate and there was not much of a learning curve for getting used to it since the other control panels I had seen were relatively similar.

They also have fantastico which makes it really easy to install various scripts and can really simplify the process of making a blog (like this one).

I would say that the best host is one that you don’t even notice, and that has definitely been true with Hostgator. I have never seen any downtime and I have never had to email them and have not had one problem with them yet. I don’t even come close to using all the bandwidth or disk space. The money I saved by going with a cheap host was not worth the stress of downtime or possible money lost due to the downtime. Even if you are a small business website it is a huge shot to your credibility when a potential customer doesn’t think you are capable of running a website, not to mention potential sales lost due to customers not being able to purchase.

On their website it says that you can get the “baby croc” plan for $7.95 per month, but I think you need to order a larger plan and make a bigger commitment. Looking back I would have saved a nice chunk of change if I would have done this and think I should go back and change my payment plan to yearly.

Overall I would give Hostgator a 10/10 since they have been perfect in every way.
