My Review of Hostgator
I have been a customer of Hostgator for a year and a half and so far have had no problems with them. My current plan is the baby croc plan. I decided that this was the best one for me since I would be hosting several different websites. Before deciding on Hostgator I had looked around for the cheapest hosting and I found several that were less expensive than Hostgator. After my host, who I will not be naming, had periods of several days where the mysql databases would not work I started looking for another host.
I had heard that Hostgator was a good host, but I still did not feel like shelling out the $9.95 per month. I ultimately decided to stay with my old host and after 2 more mysql crashes and a couple days of I decided to switch to Hostgator. I originally signed up with the “baby croc” plan and I used the Hostgator coupon code “Jury” to get the first month for one cent. Their control panel was pretty easy to navigate and there was not much of a learning curve for getting used to it since the other control panels I had seen were relatively similar.
They also have fantastico which makes it really easy to install various scripts and can really simplify the process of making a blog (like this one).
I would say that the best host is one that you don’t even notice, and that has definitely been true with Hostgator. I have never seen any downtime and I have never had to email them and have not had one problem with them yet. I don’t even come close to using all the bandwidth or disk space. The money I saved by going with a cheap host was not worth the stress of downtime or possible money lost due to the downtime. Even if you are a small business website it is a huge shot to your credibility when a potential customer doesn’t think you are capable of running a website, not to mention potential sales lost due to customers not being able to purchase.
On their website it says that you can get the “baby croc” plan for $7.95 per month, but I think you need to order a larger plan and make a bigger commitment. Looking back I would have saved a nice chunk of change if I would have done this and think I should go back and change my payment plan to yearly.
Overall I would give Hostgator a 10/10 since they have been perfect in every way.
