HostGator Review by Angel H.
There are probably thousands of web hosts out there for less than $10, some may even only cost $2. But from all the hosts I’ve used priced around the $10 or less category, Hostgator has proven to be the best in terms of support and reliability. I’ve only faced one instance of real downtime as at that point Hostgator had upgraded their servers, and they did it at night so I didn’t lose much traffic. As far as the features go, you do get what you pay for but keep in mind that while a lot of bandwidth and space sounds nice, you don’t get much CPU usage. However this is a problem with using any shared host, not just Hostgator so you can’t really blame them.
As far as their non-shared hosting solutions go, apparently they don’t offer VPS at the moment so if your site does outgrow the shared hosting plan, you’ll need to upgrade to a dedicated server if you want to stick with them which is a bit expensive. So for VPS needs, I recommend you go elsewhere. But as far as shared goes, it should get the job done. I’ve contacted support a couple of times and usually got a reply within less than 24 hours. One time, I got a reply within an hour or so which is pretty good considering the amount of clients they have. I’ve also gotten my problem resolved every time, and their support has always been patient and knowledgeable. Their live chat support isn’t that good though I’d only recommend that for some brief questions, or to ask some questions related to their services before signing up but not as a means of real support. Use their ticket system if you do encounter a problem.
As for my review, I’ve been paying $10 a month for about a year or so now, and overall for that price I’d say it was money well spent so I’ll rate them a 9/10.
